The Facts

xDSL Services

The background

ADSL-based internet connections have formed a key role in enabling VoIP services for SMEs. Combined with SIP trunks and IP-enabled PBX technology, this class of broadband allows businesses to make and receive telephone calls without the need for an expensive ISDN circuit.

However - standard ADSL products, as offered by many ISPs, have limitations when being used for voice applications. They do not offer the Quality of Service (QoS) required for supporting reliable voice applications. ISPs allow the sharing of bandwidth to reduce costs but this contention causes packet loss, delay and jitter, all of which minimise the VoIP experience.

VxDSL and Business Connect

Voiceflex offer two types of DSL service, VxDSL - designed specifically for VoIP services, and Business Connect - designed for VoIP services but levering extra bandwidth to allow internet access.

VxDSL is our own xDSL voice-only service which guarantees network quality for SIP trunks. VxDSL uses BT ATM coupled with Voiceflex's own MPLS network to provide unparalleled levels of service and quality. Voiceflex's VxDSL removes the uncertainty that the internet brings to voice, as we don't use the internet - just internet technology.

Business Connect is our own xDSL mixed voice and data service which guarantees network quality for SIP trunks. Business Connect uses ADLS2 technology connecting to Voiceflex’s own MPLS network to provide unparalleled levels of service and quality. Voiceflex's Business Connect removes the uncertainty that the internet brings to voice; the connection for voice drops directly on to our network, voice is give priority over data at router and network level. Business Connect will provide upto 1.3mg upload and up to 24meg download with Business Connect 4 providing up to 2.4mg upload and up to 24meg download.

In addition, the following services are available on both VxDSL and Business Connect

  • Remote Access Virtual Private Networking

Our DSL services support Remote Access Virtual Private Networking (VPN). Remote access to your network can be provided using Cisco VPN client software. This access allows users can reach ‘behind’ the provided router and access network devices and services from offsite.

  • Site-to-Site Tunelling

If Voiceflex DSL services are provisioned at multiple sites then the supplied routers can be configured to provide connectivity between the sites. These tunnels can then be used to carry both Voice and Data traffic.
